Across six weeks, this oil painting course offers a supportive and accessible introduction to working with oils, suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some prior experience who want to build confidence and refine their practice. For beginners, the course establishes a clear foundation in essential materials and techniques, including surface preparation, paint handling, colour mixing, and the step-by-step construction of a painting. For those with experience, it provides space to develop further through practical guidance, tailored feedback, and tips to help improve control, consistency, and expression.
Through a balance of guided exercises and open painting time, you’ll explore brushwork, layering, composition, and colour relationships in a hands-on, practical way. The emphasis is on learning through doing, with encouragement to experiment, reflect, and develop your own approach to the medium.
