Join us for a 2hr drawing workshop on using drawing materials, techniques and processes of your own choosing whilst receiving guidance and support to help you achieve your own creative intentions
Suitable for beginners, those with experience or school/college students.
Supported Personal Exploration
Focus: To receive assistance with your own drawing project through accessing advice and guidance from professional artist, James Lark.
Session Content:
You choose your drawing project, we provide the advice and guidance to help you achieve your intent.
Key Outcomes:
-Develop confidence using drawing materials, techniques and processes of your choosing.
Monday 20th April 6.30-8.30pm
Join us for a 2hr drawing workshop on using ink and dip pens for an alternative way of drawing, part of our expressive drawing series (check out the full 6week course).
Suitable for beginners, those with experience or school/college students.
Creative ‘mistakes’
Focus: Exploring fluid mark-making, contrast, and expressive line using drawing inks, while developing confidence in working with permanent, decisive marks.
Session Content:
-Exploration exercises with dip pens
-Ink wash techniques (dilution and layering)
-Combining line and wash for depth
-Sustained observational drawing using ink and wash
Key Outcomes:
-Develop confidence using permanent media
-Control line weight and tonal wash
-Create contrast through ink layering
-Strengthen expressive and dynamic mark-making
-Produce a resolved ink drawing with clarity and impact
Monday 13th April 6.30-8.30pm

Composition & Dynamic Drawing
Focus: Developing control and commitment using biro while exploring composition, cropping, and tonal depth through layered line work.
Session Content:
-Continuous line exercises
-Tonal scales and exploring pressure variation
-Using viewfinders
-Exploring positive/negative space, and focal points
-Sustained observational drawing
Key Outcomes:
-Build tone confidently using layered line
-Understand how cropping affects impact
-Strengthen compositional awareness
-Develop patience and decisiveness in mark-making
-Produce a resolved biro drawing with depth and clarity
Monday 30th March, 6.30-8.30pm

Focus: Expressive mark-making and movement
Session Content:
-Large-scale gestural warm-ups (whole arm drawing)
-Fast 1–3 minute drawings (figures and objects)
-Subtractive drawing
-Tonal study with bold contrasts
-Highlights and shadows
Key Outcomes:
-Looser, more dynamic drawing
-Confidence using the whole page
-Emotional impact through marks

Tone, Light & Form
Focus: Foundations of good drawing through tonal modelling.
Session Content:
-Expressive mark-making warm-up using different graphite
-Creating depth using light and shadow
-Shading techniques: hatching, cross-hatching, scumbling
-Exploring subtractive drawing (drawing with an eraser)
-Drawing a simple still life with strong light source on a prepared ground
Key Outcomes:
-Understanding 3D form
-Controlling contrast
-Moving beyond outlines
Monday 16th March, 6.30-8.30pm

Suitable for beginners, those with experience or school/college students.
Learning to see and letting go (Drawing pencils)
Focus: Observation, loosening up, breaking fear of the blank page
Session Content:
-Expressive warm-ups (continuous line, drawing without looking at paper)
-Blind contour & continuous contour exercises
-Tonal value scale (light to dark using pressure control)
-Simple object drawing (mugs, fruit) using line weight variation
Key Outcomes:
-Understanding line confidence
-Seeing shapes rather than “objects”
-Reducing perfectionism
